“Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness.” – Joseph Pilates.
The way you carry yourself can influence the way other people perceive you. People can often treat you in accordance with the way you maintain your posture physically.
Oscar Wilde once said: “Be yourself, everyone else is taken.”
So Pilates encourages you to be yourself – regardless of your body type – and boosts your confidence by making you more aware of your body.
It helps you to function better, no matter what is happening in your life. You may be young, old, middle-aged or pregnant, you may be recovering from an injury or surgery. By strengthening the core – the middle of the body – Pilates helps you to increase energy levels, become more flexible and improve circulation.

Pilates is suitable for everyone. Used by physical therapists, chiropractors and orthopaedic surgeons alike, it can be integrated into rehabilitative exercise and physical therapy programmes designed to speed up recovery of soft tissue injuries.
Pilates sessions facilitate flexibility, joint mobility and musculoskeletal alignment.
Pilates during pregnancy is highly beneficial. Besides learning proper breathing and body alignment, pregnant women can improve their concentration levels. Pilates assists women to recover body shape and tone after giving birth. If you are pregnant you should consult your doctor before beginning, or continuing with, a Pilates programme.
Group classes are unsuitable for those with injuries or restricted movement due to injury. Private tuition is recommended at the beginning for people with special needs or those who carrying a medical referral.
Pilates exercises involve the disciplined use of custom apparatus and personalised exercises that can be easily modified to suit a large range of fitness levels. No muscle group is under- or over-trained.
Intensity of exercise increases over time as the body adapts. Sessions are delivered one-to-one or in closely supervised small groups. Each session is tailored to the specific needs of the individual.
